NAIL ART POSTER SERIES
Part of my thesis exploration, these posters helped me identify 5 aspects of nail art I was most interested in, and I made a mood board to gather inspiration for each one. Nail art is wearable art - a form of self expression that everyone embodies differently, which is why I decided to delve deeper into this range and connection to body ornamentation for my upcoming thesis project. I then made 3 more exploring the connection to fine art.
SYNESTHESIA ZINE
This publication is a compilation of research, surveys, and an interview with a synesthete. The subject matter is synesthesia: the overlapping of two senses, where someone experiences one sense through another. For example, seeing colors when you hear sounds. This is inherently a very visual topic, parts of the zine were inspired by artists who experience synesthesia and make work about their experience. The zine has three sections for three different types of synesthesia: Chromesthesia, Graphme-Color, and Spatial Sequence. These sections are hand bound together using kettle-stitch binding.
PERFUME BOOK
For this 100 page book, my process included research, writing, illustration and design. I began with a survey about fragrance preferences, conducted with a group of willing participants. Next, I generated multiple design directions, each exploring typography, color palette, and page layouts. As a result, the luxurious, elegant look and feel for the book was chosen, which corresponds to the subject matter. The sections cover a range of topics; A Brief History, Survey, Scents, Collection, and Visual Essay.
REMIX MAG
Editorial design direction for an original magazine called “Remix”. Exploration includes front cover and inside spreads.
Using digitally collaged and altered imagery from 2 pre-existing magazines, I created a new mix resulting in a unique look-and-feel for this surreal, vacation-themed magazine. Tropical imagery of brightly colored flowers and objects, paired with vibrant colors and retro typography, results in a fun and playful 70’s vibe.
PIE MAKING PLAYING CARD DECK
This deck of illustrative pie making playing cards uses each suit to distinguish a different type of fruit pie, and the numeric sequence to correlate with each step in baking. Each illustration was created in Adobe Illustrator. The colors of the suits are determined by the fruits, but I focused on keeping the overall color palette warm and cozy, evoking the feeling of being at home in the kitchen while the pies are baking.
INK BOOK COVER
“Ink” was a random word selected to be the title of this book. Using that one word as inspiration, I imagined a story of a diver and an octopus. Based on that, I drew the tentacles by hand and scanned them in. A close-crop with a single tentacle creates a sense of mystery. To grab interest on a crowded book store table, the design is fun and inviting with bold, large graphics, and a deep inky palette of white, black and purples.
